So what’s SOLSTICE made From?
SOLSTICE is made from 100% natural ingredients and zinc oxide. We have selected ONLY natural, non-refined oils for this project as we believe in supporting sustainable farming and naturally these are the best quality products that you can rub on your skin. As opposed to chemical sunscreen SOLSTICE hydrates the skin, replenishing damaged skin cells as well as guarding you from Ultra Violet rays and free radicals from the sun. Here is a closer look…
Coconut oil acts as a protective layer over the skin to retain moisture and is full of vitamin E to keep your skin healthy.
Avocado oil is rich in fatty acids nourishing and moisturising the skin. It is also full of vitamin A, B1, B2, D and E which help to revitalise your skin.
Shea butter restores skin elasticity and prevents premature aging. Shea butter is rich in vitamin E, A and F.
Beeswax has antiviral, anti-inflamatory and anit-bacterial qualities which sooth damaged skin. We use beeswax to make SOLSTICE water-resistant and to thicken the natural oils. Beeswax creates a protective layer over your skin, keeping it hydrated in the elements of wind, surf and sun.
Cacao improves skin density and hydration and has anti-aging properties. It is also loaded with antioxidants (about 40 times that of blueberries)
Zinc oxide has been used to heal burns and wounds for the last 2000 years. Zinc provides broad-spectrum protection blocking UVA and UVB rays and aids in recovering damaged skin tissue.
Carrot seed oil helps to heal cracked or burned skin and is rich in beta-carotene and vitamins A and E which balance moisture levels.

HOW DOES a mineral sunscreen work?
SOLSTICE is a natural zinc. The main active ingredient with the highest SPF protection is zinc oxide. Together the ingredients create a protective layer on your skin which shield you from UVB and UVA rays and free radicals. This layer reflects the suns rays so they are not absorbed into your skin. This method of protection is much safer than a chemical sunscreen which needs to be absorbed into the skin and can cause skin irritation. Chemical sunscreens do not protect from free radicals and contain ingredients which suck out moisture and are toxic for your body and our ocean.
The most dangerous chemicals in sunscreen are Oxybenzone and Octinoxate. If your sunscreen contains these please stop using it immediately. These ingredients have been proven to change hormone levels in your body disrupting your endocrine system and can cause problematic free radicals in your skin cells when exposed to the sun.
In Australia environmental scientists have proven that Oxybenzone can cause reef sterility and is toxic for marine life. Approximately 14,000 tonnes of sunscreen enters the ocean each year. Please choose and use sunscreen wisely. Protect your health and the health of the ocean.
RAMA project recommends that you treat sunscreen as something precious. Use the minimum amount and wear a hat, sunscreen and clothing to protect you in the hottest parts of the day.
healthy body, healthy planet
choose natural zinc
There is little evidence that sunscreen in isolation prevents skin cancer. Rates of melanoma have tripled over the last 35 years, although the number and usage of available sunscreens has increased. Consumption of processed foods, extended sun exposure and sun tanning in the hottest parts of the day are likely to contribute to this.
The most effective way to protect yourself is to:
stay out of the sun in the hottest part of the day
wear protective clothing and a hat
use a zinc based mineral sunscreen
eat a whole foods plant based diet (limiting grains, processed sugars and avoiding dairy which all cause inflammation)

Love the RAMA Team.
Rose is passionate about nature, the workings of the mind and digestive health. She has completed studies in education, yoga and anthroposophy. Rose believes that a healthy digestion is the key to good health. She thinks that we digest not only what we eat, but also the products that we use and our thoughts which are influenced by what we watch, read, listen to and practice. She loves the outdoors and spending time with her family sailing, surfing, playing music and traveling.
Aitor Cotelo Fernandez
Aitor loves to play in the ocean and has recently finished studies in Navigation. His dream is to take his family sailing around the world. He is passionate about traveling, exploring new places, cultures and enjoying life.
Kai cotelo Goodall
Kai is the youngest member of our team and is the inspiration behind RAMA Project. Kai loves playing in the sun and all things ocean. Kai wears SOLSTICE sunscreen whenever he is outdoors and helps his mummy and daddy to put it on too!
Sometimes SOLSTICE is hard to apply, is there an easy way to put it on?
SOLSTICE sunscreen uses a natural oil base and beeswax. These natural products tend to get harder in a cooler environment and soften when they are warm. The easiest way to apply SOLSTICE is to warm it up with your fingers, holding the tin in you hand and rubbing you fingers in a circular motion in the cream. You can also put the tin in the sun for a few minutes before applying.
At RAMA project we believe that sunscreen should be used as something precious and therefore the texture of SOLSTICE is coherent in making you think about how much you use. The application takes a little more time, encouraging you to smooth it over your skin and rub it in carefully.
We trust that this method brings greater awareness to the importance of what we put on our skin and how we treat the environment. As you apply SOLSTICE you are taking time to protect your skin and the environment.
There are occasionally larger particles in the cream
SOLSTICE sunscreen uses only non-refined natural ingredients, therefore occasionally you may find a larger particle within the cream mixture. Do not worry as this can be a tiny piece of coconut, a larger piece of zinc or a little clump of cacao powder. You can rub this in easily and it is 100% natural.
How long does SOLSTICE sunscreen protect me for?
SOLSTICE sunscreen uses beeswax which makes it water-resistant and zinc-oxide which has a factor 40 SPF. We recommend applying a thick layer and re-applying at least every 2 hours, after sweating, swimming or towel drying. For the best sun protection, apply SOLSTICE regularly, seek shade in the hottest parts of the day, wear a hat and protective clothing.
Can I use SOLSTICE sunscreen for babies?
Yes. The reason we created SOLSTICE was for our son Kai and he has been using this since he was 6 months old. At RAMA we are confident that all of our ingredients are of the highest quality and are safe for everyone including babies. Please be careful with sun exposure for babies and we recommend using SOLSTICE in conjunction with other sun protection methods including protective clothing, limited exposure and nutrition.
