Creating a warm space
Hello friends, this weeks blog is about preparing a space for the colder months. The last week has definitely brought true Autumn weather, more rain and crisp mornings. I took time to get our families winter clothes out of hiding and put some more blankets on the beds and sofa. Over the week we enjoyed licorice and ginger teas, baked bread and made hot lentil soup.
Kai and I took a walk during the week and collected a basket of Autumn goodies, we told a story about the Autumn man who comes to paint the leaves and that these were the presents he had left. I also shared a story with Kai about Michael and the dragon, a man who shows courage by facing a fierce dragon, a symbol to be strong and prepare for the cold. We are needing to be extra brave this month having been sick with whooping cough and still recovering.
Yesterday was a home day where we did some colouring to reflect the season and this morning we went to the Autumn market at Vie cafe in Buderim. The place was buzzing and there were many beautiful earthy stalls. I met a kind mother, Sarah, with a stall promoting her botanical collective play group. Where parents and children come together to delve into the joys of craft with natural materials. See her instagram @thebotanicalcollective or facebook page- botanicalcollective for more details.
This week I was also fortunate enough to visit the Caloundra Steiner School Initiative craft group and learn how to make wool dolls. See the attached pictures to view our creations. The natural wool has a beautiful smell and such a warm feel to it. It was very therapeutic working with my hands and the doll truely felt magical and precious once I had finished. These dolls were donated to the school for when it opens in 2020. I believe later in the year they will be selling some in a craft market. The craft group meets every Wednesday from 9:30am-12, many mums bring their children and new members are welcome. No experience necessary and materials are in exchange for a donation towards the new school. Please see the Caloundra Steiner School Initiative facebook page for more information.
For now goodbye, stay warm and enjoy this beautiful Autumn season.
